Slices create sharp shadows on the ground, with the textures on the edge of laser cut layers.
Interlocked slices

This is the most healing effect with the laser cut pieces, round shape could make the shadow feels softer and calming, layers of acrylic could make the light effect richer.

Mock up
Use cardboard as the material for the first attempt, create the frame shell and test the light source, the distance between the light and coil will change the brightness through movements.

INSPIRATION
Exploring the harmonious connection between people and nature, these lights bring a touch of magic and healing through their gentle, dynamic movements.

Experimented with various laser-cut acrylic shapes to explore how different designs influence light patterns and shadow effects.
Mock up
Prototype
The brightness can be adjusted by smoothly moving the lamp up or down. The light creates dynamic, shifting shadows that beautifully project on the table's surface.
Test the combination of the overall shape and acrylic base. To see how the lights went through the acrylic base.

Structure & Material study

Yusai-Tei
The inspiration for this project came from a research trip to Yusai-Tei in Kyoto, where I encountered an environment that left a profound impression on me. The rhythmic dance of water ripples became the focal point of my observations, embodying a seamless connection between human presence and the natural world. I want to bring this beautiful natural moment into my design.
This project is a synthesis of artistic vision and technical experimentation. Its design mirrors the fluidity and elegance of ripples, with carefully chosen materials enhancing the interplay of light and shadow. This journey formed a poetic loop: the inspiration drawn from nature returned as an artistic offering, now integrated into the cultural fabric of the place.
